Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is VERITAS?

A: VERITAS is a noncrosslinked biologic mesh derived from bovine pericardium, procured from cattle in the US less than 30 months of age.

Q2: Where can I use VERITAS?

A: VERITAS Collagen Matrix is intended for use in reconstruction of the pelvic floor excluding transvaginal pelvic organ prolapse and for use in the repair of rectal prolapse excluding rectocele.

VERITAS is intended for use as an implant for the surgical repair of soft tissue deficiencies: abdominal and thoracic wall repair, muscle flap reinforcement and repair of hernias (e.g., diaphragmatic, femoral, incisional, inguinal, lumbar, paracolostomy, scrotal, umbilical).

Q3: What are the contraindications for VERITAS?

A: Use of VERITAS is contraindicated in patients with a known sensitivity to bovine material.

Q4: How does VERITAS need to be stored?

A: VERITAS needs to be stored at controlled room temperature (20°C - 25°C / 68°F - 77°F) with the average room temperature at ≤25°C or 77°F. VERITAS has a shelf life of 3 years.

Q5: How do I know that VERITAS has been exposed to higher temperatures?

A: There is a heat indicator on every carton. If the color of the sensor has changed to red, the heat indicator has been activated and VERITAS has been exposed to higher temperatures (>38°C or 100.4°F) and shouldn't be used anymore.

Q6: Do I need to soak or prepare VERITAS before its use?

A: No. VERITAS is a true package-to-patient product. Since VERITAS isn't a dermis product is also doesn't need to be stretched.

Q7: Can I soak / rinse VERITAS in antibiotics before implantation?

A: Yes. Per IFU, VERITAS can be soaked / rinsed for up to one hour in one of the following antibiotics: Ampicillin, Kanamycin, Neomycin, Cefazolin.

Q8: Does VERITAS need to be stretched when implanted?

A: No, VERITAS is not a dermis product. Therefore no (pre-) stretching is necessary or recommended. VERITAS should be placed taut but tension-free to ensure maximum contact with well-vascularized tissue, avoiding pockets that could lead to seroma formation.

Q9: Can VERITAS be trimmed?

A: Yes. VERITAS can easily be trimmed without risk of fraying or delaminating.
